Re: freeeditor.exe is Legitimate and safe software
I downloaded a .pdf document and didn't have Adobe Reader installed. So I chose to use the web service to find the appropriate program to open the file with and it took me to this page: http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/xml/redir.asp?Ext=pdf which lists FreeEditor as one of the options. I clicked on it and it downloaded it. The program opens and edits many different document formats as well as opens many different image formats. I am running Windows XP at home with an old MS Office 2003 and can't open docx files except online but this software opens them. FYI This document and image opener/editor comes with Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and Microsoft Visual C++, which is required for the software to run. There is no option to opt out of receiving that. It's all inclusive/prebundled. You can expect your system to shut down and restart without warning once the software is finished being installed. That was a little unnerving, but it seems to be fine with a shortcut icon appearing on the desktop as well as in the Programs in my Start Menu. It also comes with an Uninstall Feature which is always a good sign. It is developed by Blue Labs LLC. and there is a disclaimer on the page that says "By clicking "Install Now" you agree to the Microsoft Service Agreement and Microsoft Online Privacy Statement." and has links to the agreement and statement. Since Microsoft is referring the public directly to this software and ultimately this page from Windows, as an option to open .pdf files with, I would presume it's been vetted. I would not have downloaded it otherwise. When you open the software, and click on Help, you will find that you are able to check for program updates there and that there is an Online Help feature that takes you to their website which is www.freeeditor.com and they have FAQs on the product set up there. Their contact information is: (FreeEditor © 2012-2014) Blue Labs, LLC
